Amhara
Amhara is the site of the largest inland body of water in Ethiopia. Nematodirases, mostly in the context of sheep gastrointestinal parasites, seems to have been well-studied in Amhara and is the the common studied disease among different species.
Harari
Harari is the smallest regional state in Ethiopia in both land area and population. Infestation with ticks/mange/mites/flees is the common studied disease among four species. Studies in this region on Brucellosis, Echinococcosis, Neosporosis are only about cattle.
Afar
Afar has the lowest point in Ethiopia and one of the lowest in Africa. The majority of small ruminant tuberculosis were carried out in Afar pastoralist community, and it suggests extensive circulation of PPR (Peste des petits ruminants) virus among the small ruminant population.
Benishangul-Gumuz
Benishangul-Gumuz is a regional state in northwestern Ethiopia. Most of studies about trypanosomosis were conducted in this parts of the country, but the average prevalence exhibits significant differences among species.
Dire Dawa
Dire Dawa lies in the eastern part of the nation, on the Dechatu River. Studies on Brucellosis have been implicated in all species in the state. Disease prevalent in other species, such as Infestation with ticks/mange/mites/flees, Cysticercosis and Nematodiasis, Fasciolosis, does not appear in studies on cattle.
Oromia
Nematodirases and Trypanosomosis seems to have been well-studied in Oromia. Most of the published studies about Fasciolosis and echinococcosis that are both widely prevalent in Ethiopia and incur significant economic losses were conducted in Oromia and Amhara.
Tigray
Tigray is the fifth-largest by area, the fifth-most populous, and the fifth-most densely populated of the regional states. The prevalence of certain diseases is higher, such as Pasteurellosis in Small Ruminants and Theileriosis in Sheep.
Somali
Somali has the largest territory after Oromia but but the population is small. Studies on Brucellosis and Infestation have been implicated in all species in the state. Much of the research on cattle is about diseases that only occur in cattle, such as Foot and mouth disease.
Gambella
Gambella, a less populous Ethiopian state that rely heavily on extensive livestock production, is under-represented in recent literature. The common studied disease suggest extensive circulation of PPR (Peste des petits ruminants) virus among the small ruminant population.
SNNPR
Most of the studies covering tick infestations in cattle, were conducted in the SNNPR. Research in the area has focused more on cattle, including trypanosomosis and other diseases that only occur in cattle.
